Traditional Thin Crust Pizza Dough

  • 3/4 cup warm water (110-115°F)
  • 1 ½ teaspoons dry active yeast
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Olive oil for rising process


  1. Lightly stir yeast into warm water and let stand.  When the surface appears creamy and slightly foamy, add mixture to flour and salt in a large bowl.  Stir to combine.  When a soft ball begins to form, turn out onto a floured counter and knead 8-10 minutes until texture becomes smoother and it feels elastic.

  2. Set dough inside of a well oiled bowl and cover loosely.  Let rise in a warm place for between 1-1½ hours or until dough has doubled in volume.  If the top looks dry as it rises, pat with oil from the bowl to add moisture.

  3. After rising, remove dough and make two balls of about equal size.  So as not to further develop the gluten which will make it tough, let dough rest for at least 10 minutes.

  4. To store dough and save for later use, wrap tightly in plastic wrap and refrigerate for up to three days.  To continue working and use dough immediately, place on cookie sheets and roll balls out into ½” thick rounds.
