  • 1 tablespoon dry active yeast
  • 2 cups warm water
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 5 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon dried basil
  • 1 tablespoon dried thyme
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup pizza sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded fresh basil

  1. Preheat oven to 500 degrees Fahrenheit.

  2. Stir together yeast, sugar, and water and set it aside.  This mixture is ready when the top has started to get creamy.

  3. In a large mixing bowl place flour, salt and herbs.  Mix them together.  Next mix together the wet ingredients (other than the pizza sauce) and mix them thoroughly.  Add them to the dry ingredients and mix well.  Put the dough on a large flat surface dusted with flour and knead until it is elastic. Coat with olive oil and set in a large bowl to rise for one hour.

  4.  Get pizza stone or a heavy baking sheet and  place it in the middle of the oven for about 10 minutes to warm it.  Roll about 1/4 of the dough to your desired thickness. Add extra dried herbs to your pizza sauce to give it some extra flavor.  Spread the sauce on your pizza dough, then add the fresh basil and top with the cheese.  Bake the pizza on the pre-warmed baking sheet for about 15 minutes or until dough is starting to brown and the cheese is bubbly.

Pizza doesn't have to be fancy to be delicious.  This pizza recipe, using simple herbs to give it tons of flavor, is the perfect example of that.  If you have never tried making a pizza loaded with herbs, sauce, and cheese (and not much else!) you should try this recipe ASAP.  This pizza has herbs in the dough, the sauce, and on top as additional toppings.  Of course, you can always put vegetables, meat, or any other toppings you like on this pizza as well.  But since you will have tons of flavor on the pizza because of the abundance of herbs, the pizza will not really need anything else.

More about your pizza crust...

The type of crust that you choose to create makes a huge difference in the outcome of your pizza recipe.  Thin crust and thick crust pizzas are very different and the one you choose depends on the occasion, the preferences of your guests, and the toppings you plan to use in your recipe.

It is important to consider the occasion when you are choosing what kind of crust to use for your pizza recipe.  Thick crust is a great option if it is cold outside and you have hungry guests who are craving a hearty meal of pizza and beer.  A thin crust may be more appropriate if you are planning a light meal during the summertime, accompanied by a salad and white wine.

We strive to bring you the best recipes for all pizza, no matter what kind of crust you choose.  We hope that you enjoy all of the recipes that you find on this site and that you will continue to visit pizzamenu.com for all of your pizza making needs.
